Chapter 10 - Genetic Constancy and Variability
Darwin and Wallace posed a modern explanation for the diversity of life on Earth. However, this was only part of what was needed for biology's great revolution to proceed; there had to be a reasonable explanation of inheritance. Unbeknownst to Darwin, an Austrian monk was solving that problem and at the same time doing science in a new way. This was Gregor Johann Mendel. The new directions Mendel established are of great interest and heritage today.
