Opportunity to participate in the editorial processes for specific list of books. 

New opening on the Public Safety List. 

Working closely with Managing Editor, Acquisition Editors or Publisher, manage the editorial process from manuscript acquisition through development stages.

 

Specific Potential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day details for projects under contract to establish, track, and meet schedules
  • Coordinate and execute content development: evaluate project needs; analyze competing texts; assess originality of content; write detailed developmental plans; develop textbooks and ancillary products.
  • Handle the review process for each manuscript; contact reviewers, handle review scheduling and follows up with reviewers and company personnel as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Provide direction and guidance to authors on the publishing process, author responsibilities, to ensure quality of project. Provide authors with customized guidelines for manuscript preparation.
  • Provide editorial guidance to partner organizations; work with partner organizations to ensure manuscript viability.
  • Maintain status reports, be the ‘go to’ person for status requests
  • Hold project launch meetings and provide design guidance to Production.
  • Assist Production with checking all page proofs including chapters, cover, frontmatter, and backmatter. Write copy as needed.
  • Provide Sales/Marketing Support such as sales/marketing information, surveys, work with teams to acquire and apply market feedback. Serve as a resource person for product information to team members, sales representatives, customer service.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 1 to 3 years experience in the publishing process particularly as applies to editorial processes of educational/textbook publishing, as Editorial Assistant, Marketing Assistant or other related position.
  • Complete Computer literacy, familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc) and email, some previous exposure to customized publishing applications helpful.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills required.
