Lisa Astalos Chism, DNP, APRN, BC - Madonna University, Beaumont Hospitals
Dr. Chism has been a registered nurse for almost 20 years and a board certified nurse practitioner for 15 years. She received her BSN, master’s, and post- master’s degrees at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. In December 2007, Dr. Chism graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She was a member of Oakland University’s inaugural DNP class which was the first DNP program in the state of Michigan. Currently, Dr. Chism’s practice area is Internal Medicine through Beaumont Hospitals where she practices in an ambulatory clinic.
As one of the first advanced practice nurses in her state to hold a DNP degree, Dr. Chism has been a champion of this innovative degree. Because of her commitment to the profession of nursing and nursing education, Dr. Chism has both published and presented on the topic of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Dr. Chism is also an active preceptor for various universities’ nurse practitioner programs. Recently, she has expanded her educator role and is an adjunct assistant professor at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.
Dr. Chism’s professional and research interests include the development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, spiritual care in nursing, and nursing education. She lives in Woodhaven, Michigan with her eight year old daughter Isabel, her husband of 12 years Bruce, and her poodle Daisy.
