Dr. Aghababian began practicing emergency medicine as a fellow in Emergency Medicine at UCSF in July of 1976. He returned to the University of Massachusetts in 1978 and in 1983 he became the Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine. Over the next decade an EM Residency Training Program, Clinical Research Program, and Fellowship in EMS and Toxicology were developed. In 1992, the University of Massachusetts trustees created a Department of Emergency Medicine appointing Dr. Aghababian as the Founding Chair. Since 1992 the Department’s clinical activity has more than doubled. The Residency and Fellowship Programs have graduated several emergency physicians who are practicing in clinical and academic settings in several states, as well as Canada and Australia.
