John V. Walther, PhD - Southern Methodist University
Professor Walther’s research considers problems in experimental and theoretical aqueous geochemistry including mineral surface sorption reactions, kinetics of dissolution, and mineral solubilities as a function of temperature, pressure and solution composition. He maintains hydrothermal and wet-chemical laboratories to help understand fluid-mineral reactions in geological processes. His teaching responsibilities involve educating undergraduate and graduate students about how geochemical principles can be used to help understand chemical interactions in the natural world around them and humankind’s effect on it.
Professor Walther earned his B.A. in Geology and Mathematics at Oberlin College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Geology at the University of California, Berkeley.
