Peggy L. Chinn, PhD, RN, FAAN - Professor Emerita, University of Connecticut, Connecticut
Peggy L. Chinn, RN, PhD, FAAN is Professor Emerita of Nursing at the University of Connecticut. She earned her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Hawaii, and Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Utah. She has authored books and journal articles in the areas of nursing theory, feminism and nursing, the art of nursing, and nursing education. Chinn's current focus for activism is the Nurse Manifest Project, a web-based project (www.nursemanifest.com) to inspire grass-roots action by nurses to shape their own future and the future of nursing and health care. Co-founded with Richard Cowling (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Sue Hagedorn (Univeristy of Colordado), the project incorporates Peace and Power approaches to creating change in the practice nursing today. Chinn nurtures peace and tranquility in daily living by playing the harp, practicing yoga, walking, drumming and chanting and petting her feline companion Lavinia.
Her book, Peace and Power: Building Communities for the Future has been used internationally by women's peace groups, nursing groups, hospital committees, church and community groups to foster their growth towards cooperative, egalitarian ways of working together.
