Janet Houser, PhD, RN - Regis University
Dr. Houser is Associate Professor of Health Services Administration at Regis University, where she teaches statistics for the health professions, research methods, and quantitative analysis for both undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Houser spent more than 20 years in health care administration prior to her academic career, and in her last administrative position, managed the clinical research function for a health system with 29 facilities. She holds Bachelors’’ and Masters’ degrees in nursing, a Masters’ degree in Healthcare Administration, and a doctorate in Applied Statistics and Research Methods.
Dr. Houser’s research agenda focuses on the development of an evidence-based, comprehensive clinical workload measurement system for acute inpatient facilities. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, and has more than 30 publications in journals and books. She provides assistance in research design and analysis for multiple research projects, including research in palliative care, the effectiveness of professional practice models, and educational methods. This is her second book; her first, entitled “Clinical Research in Practice: A Guide for the Bedside Scientist” was co-authored with Dr. Joanna Bokovoy, and was published by Jones and Bartlett in 2006.
Dr. Houser owns a consulting firm, Abacus Systems, which specializes in implementing evidence-based practice research systems in hospitals. Her consulting firm also assists organizations and individuals with measurement, research analysis, and education in research methods. She lives in Denver with her husband, Floyd Ott, a geologist/cartographer for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
