Bernadette Madara, EdD, APRN

Dr. Madara is a professor of nursing at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT.  Her area

of practice is adult health.  She received her BSN from St Anselm College-Manchester, New Hampshire, MA

from the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma MSN from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT and Ed.D

from Teacher’s College-Columbia University. 


Carol T. Avery, EdD, EdD

Dr. Avery is a tenured professor of nursing at Western Connecticut State University in where she teaches

on both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Her area of expertise is maternal-newborn nursing and

women’s health.  She received her BSN from the University of Bridgeport, MSN from Hunter College of the

City University of New York, and Ed.D. from Teacher’s College-Columbia University. Achievements include

the presidency of the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International and vice Presidency of The

American Assembly for Men in Nursing.  In addition, Dr. Avery produced a video exploring the opinions and

predictions of nurse leader Dr. Luther Christman entitled “A Conversation with Luther”.


Vanessa Pomarico-Denino, MSN, APRN

Vanessa Pomarico-Denino is a Family Nurse Practitioner in Private Practice specializing in Women’s Health. 

She is a guest lecturer for Southern Connecticut State University, Fairfield University and the Yale School

of Nursing.  She received her undergraduate nursing degree at the University of Bridgeport School of

Nursing, Bidgeport, CT and her MSN in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at SCSU.


Linda Wagner, EdD, MSN

Dr. Wagner is an associate professor of nursing at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven

CT. Her area of practice is pediatric nursing. She received her BSN from Western Connecticut State

  University, Danbury, CT, her MSN from the University of Pennsylvania and her EdD from the University of

Hartford.
